About Me, The Daycare Lady

A bit about me.

As I’m 48 (going on 49) some days I feel 19, some days I feel 99. My journey with children began early, attaining my first babysitting job as a teenager, and later becoming a young mother. When I had my first child it became very apparent that being a stay at home mom was not an option for my husband and I. Money was tight, and knowing we wanted to grow our family, we decided to employ a neighborhood daycare to watch our son when we were at work.

My goal had always been about becoming a teacher, as children are a constant source of joy to me. Alas, life did not write that part into my future. My first born was not receiving the care I expected from someone we were paying with our meagre earnings, and as opportunities in life arose, we moved to another province. Fear would not allow me to put my child in anyone else’s care, so I decided to open my own daycare. Now, almost 26 years later, I am still the daycare lady.

Although I have never had any formal training, I have been extremely successful, fortunate, and determined to be the best in my field.

Through this blog I am hoping to humanize my profession. This blog is for all of us, parents, grandparents, teachers, daycare professionals, anyone involved in the day to day of children. Completely winging it.

Getting started is always harder than it looks.
